Pictures of my friends in CIEE and I at our university. Becky was my roommate at our hotel and we had to see how close she could get to the deer! The last picture is our coordinator and me.
Best Host Mom Ever
Yesterday we talked about how much I like soup. So today what was waiting for me after school but chicken noodle soup. Mind you, it’s summertime here. I thought it would take longer for my family to understand my love for soup, but that happened really fast.
Somewhere, I know my family back home is laughing about this.
My Life as a Peruvian Study Abroad Experience: A Little Late on the Uptake
This is Day #4 in Lima, which made me realize I should start writing.
The first two days we were in a hotel for orientation. There are 12 girls total in my program and everyone is super nice!
Now we’re all at our host families’ houses. I live in Pueblo Libre, which is really close to our university, PUCP. At school today we started our intensive Spanish classes to prepare us for real Peruvian university classes. We’ll see how it goes!
I’ll be sure to post pictures soon and start doing those Journey into Mystery Challenges, haha!
Nos vemos!

emails from a distracted daughter
otherwise known as, the sparknotes summary of my trip to Guilin/Yangshuo, China, since I felt like sending updates to my dad to let him know I was still alive…
Thursday, Sept 26 (or eaaaarly Friday Sept 27)
Recently arrived in the Ming Youth International Hostel. We’re planning the next two days here in Guilin, maybe go on a city tour involving caves and a waterfall? And another day for rice fields. We are staying here for 2 nights.
Challenge 3: Take a photo of yourself in local attire.
ok, so not that “local” (local Hong Kong people dress like everyday folk), but this is the clothing of the local minority group located near Guilin, China. you paid HK$10 (or US$1.50?) to play dress up. the spectacular scenery behind makes for great pictures…
Challenge 1 : Take a photo of your room
(it’s my room during orientation but my current room looks basically the same. 9th floor = long wait for the elevator, but amazing views.)
we get to name our tutorial groups for my communications class
somehow convinced my group to be named ‘thirsty thursday’
Testing 123 Facebook is blocked in mainland china, but apparently tumblr isn’t so threatening. If you guys don’t hear from me in another week I might be dead or lost in the local rice fields.
